Synopsis

The OMSNIC Risk Management Committee will demonstrate, through the presentation of OMS case examples, how risk management strategies can help improve patient care and reduce the risk of claims or, in the event of litigation, make those claims more defensible.

Upon completion, OMSNIC policyholders earn a 5% Premium Credit applicable to the next three policy periods.

Learning Objectives
  1. Enhance patient safety and prevent or reduce untoward events through the implementation of risk management strategies including the application of improved communication and documentation skills;
  2. Understand the importance of implementing appropriate anesthesia management systems to improve patient safety;
  3. Recognize issues that can contribute to wrong tooth extraction with a focus on reducing frequency;
  4. Implement policies and strategies to help prevent delayed diagnosis or failure to diagnose claims; and
  5. Understand the relationship between medication and allergic reactions as well as the potential of drug addiction in some patients.
