Synopsis

Inferior alveolar (IA) nerve injury secondary to removal of third molars continues to be a significant concern for patients and practitioners. In this session, the presenter will discuss alternative treatment options along with indications and contraindication that may be appropriate for selected patients requiring third molar removal.

Learning Objectives
  1. List risk factors for nerve damage and prognostic factors of recovery for patients requiring third molar removal;
  2. Discuss the alternative treatment modalities to reduce the risk of IA nerve injury; and
  3. Discuss the indications and contraindications for treatment modalities design to protect the IA nerve in patients requiring third molar removal.
