Perioperative and postoperative bleeding are known risks for any invasive procedure, including dentoalveolar surgery. Bleeding is also an important indicator and has a significant impact on patients' quality of life. Management of bleeding, whether congenital, acquired, idiopathic or iatrogenic in etiology, presents a challenge to oral and maxillofacial surgeons. In this session, the presenters will discuss strategies to better identify patients at risk of bleeding, manage intraoperative bleeding, and ensure adequate postoperative hemostasis.
- Discuss the role of bleeding and hemostasis as an outcomes indicator;
- Quantify the risks of bleeding in patients receiving dentoalveolar surgery;
- Identify strategies to manage intraoperative bleeding;
- Identify strategies to improve postoperative hemostasis; and
- Discuss management strategies when performing dentoalveolar surgery on patients taking oral antithrombotics.
