Synopsis

Whether the treatment is emergent or elective, caring for a pregnant patient presents the healthcare team with multiple challenges. That may include perceived and real medical risk factors, ethical dilemmas, and medicolegal issues. The presenter will discuss the best practices in the management of a pregnant patient in need of dentoalveolar surgery to help for oral and maxillofacial surgeons develop an objective approach toward their pregnant patients.

  1. Evaluate patients in need of dentoalveolar surgery;
  2. Identify strategies to stratify the risks of dentoalveolar surgery for a pregnant patient; and
  3. Formulate strategies to care for pregnant patients in order to improve their quality of life.
