    Synopsis

    Implant dentistry has revolutionized our ability to restore the dentition in a meaningful, sustainable and predictable manner. As this is a collaborative discipline, management of complications both reversible and non-reversible fall on the restorative surgical team. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, you will be called upon in many instances to correct restorative issues. This lecture will provide an overview of complications from a restorative standpoint and provide preventions and solutions to the most common issues including excess sulcular cement retention, lack of hygiene access and failure of restorative components.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Recognize and prevent issues with dental implant restorations due to the excess retention of cement;
    2. Recognize and prevent issues with dental implant restorations due to lack of access for proper hygiene procedures; and
    3. Recognize and prevent issues with dental implant restorations due to occlusion and overload which may cause screws to loosen or break.
