This presentation will review the recommendations for monitoring and managing the pediatric population before, during and after intravenous sedation. Pre-op fasting guidelines will be reviewed as will recommendations regarding the management of the obese pediatric patient and the child with asthma or recent upper respiratory infection.
- Describe the anatomical, physiological, psychological and pharmacological changes that occur during pediatric development and how these differences affect the safe delivery of procedural intravenous sedation in this OMS population;
- Identify the guidelines for the safe monitoring and management of procedural intravenous sedation for the pediatric population; and
- Recognize how asthma, a current upper respiratory infection, or obesity affect the safe delivery of procedural intravenous sedation for this OMS population.
