Perioperative and postoperative bleeding are known risks for any invasive procedure, including dentoalveolar surgery. Bleeding is also an important outcomes indicator and has a significant impact on patients' quality of life. Management of bleeding, whether congenital, acquired, idiopathic or iatrogenic in etiology, presents challenge to oral and maxillofacial surgeons. In this session, the presenters will discuss strategies to better identify patients at risk of bleeding, manage intraoperative bleeding, and ensure adequate postoperative hemostasis.
- Discuss the role of bleeding and hemostasis as an outcomes indicator;
- Quantify the risks of bleeding in patients receiving dentoalveolar surgery;
- Identify strategies to manage intraoperative bleeding;
- Identify strategies to improve postoperative hemostasis; and
- Discuss management strategies when performing dentoalveolar surgery on patients taking oral antithrombotics.
