Synopsis

In 1966 ago Professor Hugo Obwegeser introduced orthognathic surgery to North America with his historic lecture in Washington, DC. 50 years later are we today and where will we be in the future. This session provides historical perspective, demonstrating how we have learned from our mistakes and what we have yet to master.

Learning Objectives
  1. Review developments and quantum steps that led to the success of orthognathic surgery in North America;
  2. Document the success of current treatment protocols that lead to safe and predictable patient care outcomes; and
  3. Discuss the future of orthognathic surgery in terms of minimally invasive, improved success and efficient patient outcomes.
