This preconference will update participants on anesthesia and related topics relevant to the safe and efficient administration of pediatric ambulatory anesthesia by the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Topics include specific techniques, airway management, and updates on the evaluation and assessment of patients with conditions requiring specific sedation procedures. Panel discussions for managing challenging case scenarios will be presented along with breakout sessions addressing approaches to treating the pediatric patient.
- Discuss the impact of respiratory health, cardiac disease and intellectual disabilities on the management of the pediatric patient as they relate to the administration of anesthetic techniques;
- Discuss the impact of obesity and diabetes on patient management and systems pathology as they relate to management of the pediatric patient;
- Describe the various approaches to the management of the pediatric patient utilizing enteral, IM, IV or inhalational techniques; and
- Discuss elements of emergency management unique to the pediatric patient.
