Synopsis

This program will include an overview of platforms for surgical simulation and training, descriptions of current possibilities and limitations of virtual surgical training, and a discussion of future directions for research in surgical training and simulation, including haptic force-feedback technology. In addition, the program will focus on the role of debriefing and its effective use in the simulation-based curriculum.

Learning Objectives
  1. Discuss contemporary methods for surgical training, including the role of surgical task trainers, virtual surgery and haptic feedback technology;
  2. Discuss the benefits of high-fidelity simulation-based practice of crisis resource management in the office; and
  3. Outline the benefits and methods of post-simulation debriefing.
