Synopsis

This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the variables that are considered in determining the timing and sequence of cleft palate repair. In addition, contemporary techniques will be presented with attention to indications, technical "pearls," advantages and disadvantages. A panel of expert surgeons will discuss some of the atypical, but not uncommon, scenarios that may be encountered when caring for children with a cleft palate.

Learning Objectives
  1. Describe the general sequence and timing of cleft palate repair and the variables that may be considered in treatment planning;
  2. Describe the most common techniques for repair of a cleft palate, as well as their advantages and disadvantages; and
  3. Discuss several atypical scenarios that are frequently encountered when caring for patients with a cleft palate.
