This program will cover the full spectrum of OMS anesthesia patient care in the office and hospital settings regarding complex pain management. Effective communication with chronic pain patients and specialists, safe and effective care for patients with complex needs, and incorporating new tools to help manage these patients more effectively and safely will also be addressed.
- Describe commonly used medications for the treatment of chronic pain, including mechanisms and contraindications;
- Develop a postoperative action plan to coincide with a patient's previously established treatment plan for chronic pain;
- Explain available inpatient modalities and develop a safe and effective treatment plan for a hospitalized patient with chronic pain; and
- Identify risk factors for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and develop a plan for the prevention and management of PONV, including for patient resistant to first-line therapies.
- Identify anti-emetic mechanisms and recognize adverse reactions and interactions with other medications.
