Synopsis

While there are numerous articles referring to the appropriate management of a Gunshot Wound (GSW) to the face, few articles refer specifically to the mandible. With its unique characteristics and function, the mandible requires aggressive debridement and immediate titanium plate reconstruction. These have led to a lower complication rate.

Learning Objectives
  1. Address the primary treatment objective of the GSW to the mandible;
  2. Address a comminuted GSW fracture of the mandible; and
  3. Understand the factors that affect the amount of tissue damage sustained by the mandible from GSWs.
