Several clinical articles have addressed the use of temporary anchorage devices to expand the palate in patients considered too old for conventional expansion. Review of conventional palatal expansion i-CAT studies finds a 35-40% skeletal expansion at the level of the first molars. Our i-CAT study found that this TAD-supported expander had a 70% skeletal expansion on a sample of older (under 25) patients. The speaker will illustrate this technique for TAD placement and present multiple cases.
- Provide patients with an alternative treatment option to surgically assisted palatal expansion; and
- Employ a TAD-supported expander for select patients in an office visit.
