The speakers will discuss management of the complex cleft alveolar defect. They will address controversies in surgical techniques and provide relevant information to better serve the cleft patient.
- Cite past and current literature on timing and techniques of alveolar cleft bone grafting;
- Define the role of orthodontics in managing cleft alveolus, including pre-surgical orthopedics and interceptive orthodontics, and maintenance vs elimination vs preservation of rudimentary teeth of cleft-dental gap; and
- Discuss bone graft donor sites, review the outcomes and the future of using growth factor-aided tissue engineering to reconstruct the cleft alveolus.
