Synopsis

This course reviews the surgical literature for obstructive sleep apnea in adults. Main topics include goals and guidelines, intrapharyngeal versus extrapharyngeal approaches, unilevel versus multilevel operations, staging protocols, secondary versus primary maxillomandibular advancement with and without adjunctive procedures, and standardization of success measures. Telegnathic operative techniques are illustrated with clinical cases.

  1. Explain the goals, guidelines, indications and measures of successful of surgery for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA);
  2. Identify and prioritize the multiple and diffusely complex sites or levels of disproportionate naso-velo-orohypopharyngeal anatomy; and
  3. Discuss the surgical principles, operative techniques and treatment objectives of telegnathic maxillomandibular advancement (MMA).
