This course reviews the surgical literature for obstructive sleep apnea in adults. Main topics include goals and guidelines, intrapharyngeal versus extrapharyngeal approaches, unilevel versus multilevel operations, staging protocols, secondary versus primary maxillomandibular advancement with and without adjunctive procedures, and standardization of success. Telegnathic operative techniques are illustrated with clinical cases.
- Explain the goals, guidelines, indications, and measures of success of surgery for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA);
- Identify and prioritize the often multiple and complex sites or levels of disproportionate naso-velo-orohypopharyngeal anatomy; and
- Understand the surgical principles, operative techniques, and treatment objectives of telegnathic maxillomandibular advancement (MMA).
