Among non-surgical therapies for OSA, oral appliance therapy(OAT) is considered an appropriate first-line treatment for cases of mild to moderate disease, and may possibly play a role in treating some patients with severe disease. Among surgical therapies, genioglossus advancement(GGA) can have a role in patients with retroglossal airway obstruction who may not be candidates for other operations such as MMA.
- Understand the efficacy and indications for the use of OAT;
- Discuss different appliance designs and their applicability to different patient populations; and
- Explain GGA as an alternative surgical treatment option.
