The Research Open Forum provides updates on cutting-edge research that will affect the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Included are highlights from the OMS Foundation funded research and the proposals developed at the AAOMS and OMSF-sponsored Clinical Trials Methods Course.

1. Assess the outcome of using Corticosteroid (Kenalog) versus hyaluronic acid (Hyaluronan) for arthrocentesis for TMJ;
2. Understand that the choice of which adjunctive medication will be most efficacious has not been studied in a randomized clinical trial; and
3. Critique clinical trials study proposals and describe what is involved with the development and implementation of a clinical trial.
