This program will provide an update on anesthesia and related topics relevant to the safe and efficient administration of geriatric ambulatory anesthesia by the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Topics include specific techniques, airway management, and updates on the evaluation and assessment of patients with specific conditions for sedation procedures. Panel discussions on the management of challenging case scenarios will address approaches to the geriatric patient.
- Discuss the impact of respiratory health, cardiac disease and intellectual disabilities in the management of the geriatric patient as they relate to the administration of anesthetic techniques;
- Discuss the impact of obesity and diabetes on patient management and systems pathology as it relates to the management of the geriatric patient;
- Describe the various approaches to the management of the geriatric patient utilizing enteral, IM, IV or inhalation techniques; and
- Discuss elements of emergency management unique to the geriatric patient.
