Among non surgical therapies for OSA, oral appliance therapy (OAT) is considered an appropriate first-line treatment for cases of mild to moderate disease, and may possibly play a role in treating some patients with severe disease. Among surgical therapies, genioglossus advancement (GGA) can assist patients with retroglossal airway obstruction who may not be candidates for other operations such as MMA.
- Understand the efficacy and indications for the use of OAT;
- Discuss different appliance designs and their applicability to different patient populations; and
- Explain GGA as an alternative surgical treatment option.
