This symposium will discuss the latest advances in the identification and current therapies on biofilm formation in the oral and maxillofacial region, including advances in detection of biofilm compared to conventional methods, anti-biofilm strategies, and biofilm’s role in the disease process involving the oral and maxillofacial region, such as implant periimplantitis and Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (MRONJ).
- Describe the process of formation, development and progression of biofilm on structures in the oral and maxillofacial region;
- Recognize current anti-biofilm therapy in the management of disease processes and biomaterial adherence; and
- Discuss biofilm's role in periimplantitis, MRONJ and other disease processes in the oral and maxillofacial region.
