The surgical options in open arthroplasty for the management of temporomandibular joint internal derangement and osteoarthritis will be discussed. An evidence-based approach will be utilized to update participants on available surgical options. Experts in the field will discuss their approaches and techniques, and review considerations when offering this surgical option to patients.

  1. Discuss the evaluation and diagnosis of patients presenting with TMJ OA/ID;
  2. Discuss the approach to patients when TMJ arthroplasty is being considered (imaging, consent and alternatives);
  3. Discuss the available surgical approaches in TMJ arthroplasty for OA/ID; and
  4. Review management of complications and surgical failures in TMJ arthroplasty and revision strategies.
