    Synopsis

    Surgically assisted orthodontic treatment is a practice builder that can diversify your orthodontic referrals, and a minimally invasive technique that can improve efficiency and the effectiveness of orthodontic therapy. This presentation defines specific indications for the predictable use of this technique. Recent advances in state-of-the-art treatment concepts will be presented by multiple clinicians.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Describe indications, contraindications and limitations of selective alveolar decortication. Acquire the required armamentarium and exhibit sound knowledge of the surgical technique;
    2. Discuss the history and biophysiology behind the accelerated treatment process, including the required modifications to conventional thought processes and treatment approaches; and
    3. Apply recent innovations, like piezocautery or Invisalign orthodontic treatment, and skeletal anchorage devices to accelerated osteogenic orthodontic treatment.
