    Synopsis

    Corticotomy surgery has been performed since 1897, but until recently has seen little usage in the modern era of orthognathic surgery. Kole, Epker and others have utilized "bone block" surgery technique with limited success. Current technology combining the RAP(regional acceleratory phenomenon) induced by the corticotomy surgery and bone grafting has proven to be extremely effective.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Incorporate the AOO technique into practice to significantly reduce the treatment timeframe;
    2. Explain how the AOO technique in practice is less invasive and costly; and
    3. Identify the clinical cases (dentofacial deformities) in which AOO is most effective.
