    Synopsis

    New diagnostic studies, new medications and the incorporation of evidence-based medicine in patient management have changed the way we manage medical disease. This program will discuss case-based scenarios, current guidelines and recommendations for the effective management of surgical patients in the office and the hospital.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Discuss currently understood guidelines and recommendations for the safe and effective management of surgical patients with significant systemic disease;
    2. Incorporate new evidence-based medical management guidelines into the management of patients undergoing office-based or hospital surgery; and
    3. Demonstrate familiarity with the use of newer medications for the treatment of medical conditions in the perioperative patient.
