Approximately 40% of all leukoplakias are dysplasia or cancer at first visit and even non-dysplastic leukoplakias have a significant risk for developing dysplasia. Attendees will learn what does and does not constitute leukoplakia. The molecular basis for this will be discussed.
- Discriminate between leukoplakia, the most common dysplastic lesion, and other white lesions;
- Manage patients more effectively with excision, ablation or observation based on an updated, pathology-based treatment ladder; and
- Recognize the patho-physiology of how cancer develops from dysplasia and why even non dysplastic leukoplakia are a risk to patients.
