    Synopsis

    Approximately 40% of all leukoplakias are dysplasia or cancer at first visit and even non-dysplastic leukoplakias have a significant risk for developing dysplasia. Attendees will learn what does and does not constitute leukoplakia. The molecular basis for this will be discussed.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Discriminate between leukoplakia, the most common dysplastic lesion, and other white lesions;
    2. Manage patients more effectively with excision, ablation or observation based on an updated, pathology-based treatment ladder; and
    3. Recognize the patho-physiology of how cancer develops from dysplasia and why even non dysplastic leukoplakia are a risk to patients.
