    Synopsis

    Dental professionals have a moral and legal obligation to protect patient confidentiality. HIPAA compliance consists largely of having the right forms and signatures. Never-the-less there are important, real world measures dentists should be taking beyond the paperwork that can make an actual difference in patient data security.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Understand the basic provisions of the HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule;
    2. Identify resources to help secure practice data and comply with the law; and
    3. Distinguish between what matters and what doesn’t regarding data safety.
