    Synopsis

    Trigeminal nerve injuries are known complications of dentistry and surgery. These injuries can be debilitating to patients due to sensory deficits and potential for development of neuropathic pain. This session will review etiologies, prevention, clinical neurosensory testing, and microsurgical techniques, including new materials as well as patient outcomes.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Identify causes of trigeminal nerve injuries and strategies for prevention;
    2. Perform neurosensory testing for trigeminal nerve injuries; and
    3. Discuss microsurgical options with patients having sustained trigeminal nerve injuries and timing for appropriate referrals to specialists
