Implant Retained Nasal Prostheses to Reconstruct Irradiated Nose Post Rhinectomy

Alaaaldin Radwan DDS, MD Dallas, TX, USA
Michael F. Zide DMD Dallas, TX, USA
Typically implants for anaplastic reconstruction of the missing nose involve small peripheral implants in the nasal bone area and lateral wall off the maxilla (1,2).

This technique reviews 2 cases, a man and a woman who had sub-complete removal of the nose for squamous cell cancer and subsequent cancericidal irradiation therapy.

In both cases, 4 routine 3.5 mm x 8.5 mm dental implants were placed into the flattened piriform rim without any HBO. The nasal bony aperture was widened and 7 mm healing abutments were seated. No teeth were injured by cone-beam confirmation. No tissue grafts were used. 5-to-6 months later a joined triangular metal substructure retained clips for the prosthetic noses. There were no implant failures. 1. Ethunandan M, Downie I, Flood T.
