Synopsis

Clinical advances and improved technology in Implant Dentistry have significantly enhanced the clinician’s ability to provide quality care with improved predictability in implant therapy. Patients are demanding immediate tooth replacement. This presentation will review the improvements that have been introduced to manage our fully edentulous cases and will highlight specific areas where the clinician may adopt the improved technologies and advanced techniques so that they may meet the high expectations of the edentulous patients. Discussion will focus on improvements in:

1.diagnostic equipment and computer software programs that may assist in improving communications with our referrals to identify prosthodontic requirements so that the recommended surgical procedures will improve clinical outcomes;
2.surgical techniques to achieve proper initial stability with implants thus improving the ability to immediately load the implants; and
3.prosthetic techniques and laboratory procedures to permit immediate loading.

It is vitally important for the clinician actively involved with implant dentistry to understand the principles and the need to follow the appropriate protocols to obtain long-term success for their fully edentulous implant patients who are demanding immediate loading with a fixed prosthesis.

Learning Objectives
  1. Describe the benefits of current diagnostic tools; such as the Cone beam CT scan, and the usefulness of the software planning programs for treatment planning their fully edentulous implant cases;
  2. Gain knowledge of new surgical and prosthetic techniques and principles to enhance clinical outcomes for the immediate load implant patient; and
  3. Incorporate this information into daily practices when managing implant cases.
