Accelerated osteogenic orthodontics is an evolving surgical treatment for management of dental arch misalignment and skeletal malocclusions. The bony physiology is attributed to the regional acceleratory phenomenon and is responsible for expedient tooth movement and alveolar change such as transverse expansion. The emerging use of accelerated osteogenic orthodontics can provide an alternative approach in the management of complex dental and skeletal situations typically thought best addressed with traditional means of extraction or orthognathic surgery. The surgical technique is often minimally invasive, performed within an office environment and possesses a low incidence of postoperative challenges.
- Recognition of the bony physiology associated with regional acceleratory phenomenon;
- Describe the application of accelerated osteogenic orthodontics to clinical situations; and
- Appreciation of the surgical techniques performed to assist in accelerating tooth movement.
