OMSNIC/ROAAOMS Resident Educational Symposium: From Residency to Private Practice
7:00 AM-8:30 AM

James Q. Swift DDS
Minneapolis, MN, USA
Finally, it's time to think about what to do after graduation. How does a new OMS establish a career, support a family and manage financial obligations at the same time? New OMS have several practice options to choose from. What suits you? Private practice or practicing as an associate in a small group? Or, being employed by a larger organization? Financial incentives may sound appealing- especially with the heavy burden of student loans looming. It's important to understand each practice option so that whatever you choose is in line with how you want to practice. This program will provide information to increase residents awareness about each practice type- outlining the pros and cons of each.
A panel of practicing OMS with experience in various practice structures will share the risks and benefits of each option available to new-to-practice OMS. The panel will also discuss the added responsibility and risk assumed, both clinically and financially, after graduation. Actual case examples will be used to illustrate how to mitigate these risks and help build a practice that delivers high quality patient care.
- Understand the importance of selecting the right practice model to help them meet their financial obligations while still practicing in the specialty they worked hard to achieve-Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery;
- Based on case examples, know how to manage the new responsibilities and risks associated with each type of practice.
