Synopsis

Since its’ inception, orthognathic surgery has evolved on many levels. The surgical techniques have been modified as instrumentation improved. Advances in imaging and computer technology has also improved treatment planning of orthognathic procedures. The orthognathic module program will highlight 3D, computer based treatment planning of orthognathic procedures. Other treatment planning topics such as in which situations is it better to operate both jaws will also be presented, In addition to treatment planning, orthognathic surgical techniques will be presented in “how I do it” small group sessions. The module will end with an abstract session highlighting research and new techniques in the field of orthognathic surgery.

Learning Objectives
  1. Better understand computer-based orthognathic work-up and treatment planning in 3D;
  2. Demonstrate awareness of newer modifications of orthognathic surgical procedures; and
  3. Demonstrate an enhanced perspective of computer surgical simulation.
