    Synopsis

    A review of the anatomical, physiological and pharmacological differences between the very young and very old will be presented, with special emphasis on the impact of age during sedation/anesthesia.

    1. Describe the factors that increase the sedative/anesthetic risk in these age groups;
    2. Compare the differences and similarities between the very young and very old; and
    3. Describe optimal monitoring according to age, procedure and anesthetic technique.
