    Synopsis

Nerve injuries with extractions, implants, grafts and biopsies, while thought of as a risk of treatment, are increasingly the subject of malpractice claims, settlements and verdicts that seem almost unavoidable. However, an appreciation of the legal standards that create these claims is often more important than surgical technique in avoiding litigation. This program will discuss those legal standards and offer techniques and tips for preventing suits. Patient candidacy, imaging, technique documentation, and injury response will be specifically discussed.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Institute protocols that recognize referral errors before they are acted upon; and
    2. Adapt and install new habits and customs that minimize the risk of wrong site surgery.
