    Synopsis

Between 1998-2008, more than 400 transmissions of hepatitis occurred in outpatient settings. Infectious disease transmissions present a serious hazard to patients and healthcare workers. Recent stories in the popular media have increased the awareness of both dental personnel and patients regarding the need for standard infection control precautions in the OMS setting. This course summarizes the current recommendations for infection control in dental healthcare settings, including the practical clinical application of regulations and recommendations.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Describe the current standards for patient safety relative to infection control; and
    2. Gain a thorough knowledge of how diseases are transmitted and the current best practices for prevention.
