Synopsis

The etiology and pattern of facial injuries are changing constantly. However, mandibular fracture remains a common facial injury that is treated by most oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Despite the perceived simplicity of mandibular fractures, lapses in diagnosis and management can result in poor outcomes with significant impact on patients’ quality of life. Therefore, it is important to examine this common injury from the practice-based learning and quality Improvement perspective. This symposium will focus on the current best practices in the management of mandibular fractures and common pitfalls.

Learning Objectives
  1. List the outcome indicators in the management of mandibular fractures;
  2. Describe the common poor outcomes resulting from the repair of mandibular fractures;
  3. Identify the pitfalls that can result in poor outcomes from the repair of mandibular fractures; and
  4. Describe the best practices in the management of mandibular fractures.
