Synopsis

The goal of this clinic is to “demystify” the surgical procedures most frequently used for the repair of cleft lip and palate deformities. A simple step-by-step approach to the primary repair of the unilateral and bilateral cleft lip will be demonstrated followed by various revision techniques, including the procedures utilized in the correction of whistle tip and the nose/lip (bilateral clefts) deformities. Palatoplasty techniques will also be demonstrated, including some discussion related to the timing and techniques in alveolar cleft grafting.

Learning Objectives
  1. Discuss the epidemiology, anatomy and physiology of the deformity and be able to explain it to the patient’s parents; and
  2. Understand the surgical procedures and the rationale behind them so that he/she may implement them into their practice.
