Synopsis
The physiology and pathophysiology of hemostasis will be reviewed in detail, including a review of pharmacologic agents that impact hemostasis and thrombosis. A contemporary, literature-based review of the perioperative management of patients on these medications will be provided.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the physiology of hemostasis and the pathophysiology of disorders of hemostasis commonly seen in practice;
- List the contemporary medications that impact hemostasis and their mechanisms of action, describe how these medications impact clinical practice and develop evidence-based protocols to perioperatively manage patients on antithrombotic medications; and
- Incorporate antithrombotic medications into their practice.
