    Synopsis

    The physiology and pathophysiology of hemostasis will be reviewed in detail, including a review of pharmacologic agents that impact hemostasis and thrombosis. A contemporary, literature-based review of the perioperative management of patients on these medications will be provided.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Describe the physiology of hemostasis and the pathophysiology of disorders of hemostasis commonly seen in practice;
    2. List the contemporary medications that impact hemostasis and their mechanisms of action, describe how these medications impact clinical practice and develop evidence-based protocols to perioperatively manage patients on antithrombotic medications; and
    3. Incorporate antithrombotic medications into their practice.
