    Synopsis

    This course will review the top 10 causes of the OMSNIC closed claims from 2000-2012, present findings in terms of the causes of office-based anesthesia deaths, and provide strategies for recognizing and managing these instances, with an emphasis on prevention.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Recognize the 10 most common causes of anesthesia-related deaths in the office;
    2. Prevent anesthesia-related complications with astute patient selection and management strategies for common, potentially serious anesthesia complications; and
    3. Explain the importance of end tidal CO2 in monitoring patients during anesthesia.
