    Synopsis

    The management of medical diseases has changed as the result of new diagnostic studies, new medications and the incorporation of evidence-based medicine into patient management. Using case-based scenarios, current guidelines and recommendations for the effective management of surgical patients in the office and the hospital will be discussed.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Discuss guidelines and recommendations for the safe and effective management of surgical patients with significant systemic disease;
    2. Incorporate new evidence-based medical management guidelines into the management of patients undergoing office-based or hospital surgery; and
    3. Demonstrate familiarity with the use of newer medications for the treatment of medical conditions in the perioperative patient.
