Synopsis
The management of medical diseases has changed as the result of new diagnostic studies, new medications and the incorporation of evidence-based medicine into patient management. Using case-based scenarios, current guidelines and recommendations for the effective management of surgical patients in the office and the hospital will be discussed.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss guidelines and recommendations for the safe and effective management of surgical patients with significant systemic disease;
- Incorporate new evidence-based medical management guidelines into the management of patients undergoing office-based or hospital surgery; and
- Demonstrate familiarity with the use of newer medications for the treatment of medical conditions in the perioperative patient.
