    Synopsis

    Surgical orthodontic treatment utilizing the AOO technique offers patients a viable option to the longer treatment timeframe of conventional orthodontia. Additionally, this technique allows for expansion that, in the past, necessitated a surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE) or segmental Le Fort I to accomplish. It also provides a surgical method to effectively eliminate dehiscences and root resorption while affording the surgeon an alternative and/or adjunctive approach to the management of dento-facial deformities.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Describe an effective surgical/orthodontic technique that significantly reduces treatment time;
    2. Utilize an effective treatment approach that can replace the SARPE or segmental Le Fort surgery; and
    3. Implement an effective method for reducing orthodontic complications including bone dehiscences, root resorption and periodontal defects.
