Synopsis

This surgical course will examine the diagnostic evaluation, and medical and surgical treatment options for patients with trigeminal nerve injuries.

Learning Objectives
  1. Discuss the etiology, incidence, patient demographics, diagnostic methodology, medical management and surgical treatment of various injuries to the terminal branches of the trigeminal nerve;
  2. Summarize the current literature in the area of nerve injuries, as well as the recent recommendations of the AAOMS Clinical Interest Group on Maxillofacial Neurologic Disorders; and
  3. Discuss specific types of nerve injury and identify the appropriate time for referral.
