Clinical Study of the Cases of Surgically Treated Jaw Deformity With Molar Defects Combined With Dental Implant Treatment
Introduction: To obtain good treatment results in patients of jaw deformity complicated with tooth defect, it is important to provide appropriate prosthetic treatment and restoration of occlusal support. In this report, we examine clinical cases of surgically- treated jaw deformity with molar defects combined with dental implant treatment. Patients and Methods: During five years from April 2005, we have treated 10 cases, one male and nine females. Mean age was 48.8±10.4years, and mean number of defect teeth was 5.1±3.1. The divisions of jaw deformity were; five mandibular prognathisms, three mandibular retrognathisms, and one case each of maxillary retrusion and maxillomandibular asymmetry. The divisions of operative procedure were 8 sagittal split ramus osteotomies and one case each of Le Fort I and two-jaw osteotomy. A Total of 49 implants were placed. Results: Although only one of all implants has been lost to date, good results have been obtained in all cases. Their postoperative recovery of occlusal force and occlusal contact area were similar to those of normal patients. Conclusion: Implant prosthesis in orthognathic treatment is regarded as an important choice that can raise postoperative stability and patient satisfaction.
