Advanced oral surgery procedures, technology equipment and the increasing number of medically compromised patients treated in OMS practices challenges the OMS team to review sterile instrument processing systems and operatory preparation for a sterile surgical field. This clinic will review the latest information on instrument sterilization published in the ANSI/AAMI ST79 and CDC's Guideline for Disinfection and Sterilization in Healthcare Facilities, 2008. Attendees will learn how to organize and manage the central sterilization area to prevent cross contamination while improving efficiency. This course reviews proper cleaning, packaging, sterilization and sterile storage for surgical instrument set-ups. Attendees will learn protocols for sterile instrument assurance and monitoring with the correct use of indicators, integrators and biological monitors. Samples of sterile package products will be provided for attendees.
- Define sterile;
- Demonstrate effective cleaning and disinfectant techniques;
- Differentiate chemical indicators and chemical integrators for sterile instrument packages;
- Understand proper use of biological monitors; and
