Synopsis

As the end of residency approaches, it is time to consider the practice options available and prepare accordingly. Whether this means joining a practice, starting your own practice, or work as an employee of a hospital or large group, contracts will inevitably be part of the important decision-making process. This program will educate residents on certain contract provisions and how to effectively negotiate contracts. Additionally, risk management concepts on communication and documentation will demonstrate how ethical principles are applied in patient-centered care and in daily business decisions.

Learning Objectives
  1. Recognize communication and documentation issues that can support good patient relations and improve patient safety;
  2. Understand the business risks associated with solo and group practice models to help new-to-practice OMSs choose the best option;
  3. Understand the various types of contract provisions to better prepare new-to-practice OMSs for contract negotiations; and
  4. Apply ethical principles in day-to-day patient- centered care and business decisions.
