Synopsis
This program will review the perioperative management of allergic reactions. Current treatment protocols for immediate reactions and anaphylaxis and the management of patients who are substance abusers will be discussed. The perioperative management of several drugs will be considered, as well as how to recognize drug reactions in patients who have not disclosed a history of drug abuse.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions;
- Appropriately manage these allergic reactions; and
- Develop a protocol for effective and safe anesthesia care for drug abusing patients.
