Synopsis
The acquired pediatric mandibular defect is infrequently encountered in clinical practice. This entity is unique because of the diseases encountered and the consequences for the patient. Growth, appearance, oral function and psychosocial development are paramount concerns in this patient population.This program will focus on the reconstruction of the acquired defect through dental rehabilitation.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the pros and cons of immediate versus delayed bone grafting of the acquired pediatric mandibular defect;
- Discuss the role of free tissue transfer in the management of pediatric mandibular defects; and
- Direct the dental rehabilitation of the acquired mandibular defect in the growing child and discuss its importance in preventing secondary deformities.
