    Synopsis

    Major changes will be made to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard in 2013. Employee training on the new label elements and safety data sheets (SDS) format must be conducted by December 1, 2013. Course participants will learn how to update their written hazard communication plan and SDS book, and meet the new labeling requirements.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Create written plans that explain how to recognize physical and human health hazards of chemicals, avoid exposure, handle chemical spills and clean up, and identify personal protective attire;
    2. Explain how to read a SDS, understand the elements on the label, and the Precautionary Statement and Hazard Warning Statements;
    3. Explain the 16 sections of the SDS sheet; and
    4. Recognize chemical leaks and spills, locate first aid instructions, and understand the hazards of chemicals present in the OMS setting.
